This course is for both the inexperienced rider, or for a rider needing the Motorcycle Safety Foundation Certification, and teaches the basic techniques of safely riding a motorcycle. The course meets South Carolina law, as provided in ยง 59-53-2050, for an insurance discount, so please contact your insurance company to verify your eligibility. Students must participate in all sessions, and pass both a written and riding skills assessment to receive the Motorcycle Safety Foundation course completion card. Class riding time may vary due to weather conditions and level of enrollment.
The BRC is a total of 18 hours of instruction; a 3 hour on-line eCourse, 5 hours of classroom activity and 10 hours of riding exercises on the range. The only course pre-requisites are internet access for email and web access, the ability to ride a bicycle, and enough fitness, strength and coordination to manage the physical demands of riding a motorcycle. In the classroom students will be introduced to the mental and perceptual processes needed to be a good rider. Riding sessions on the range have students practice basic control that includes clutch and throttle coordination, shifting, turning and stopping. Later exercises include quicker stops, cornering judgment and swerves.
